After devoting two decades to creative writing instruction, I've learned that the nuts and bolts of teaching someone how to write aren't that difficult. You read a ton. You write when you can. You discuss these practices with others who've been reading a ton, writing when they can. What seems more flummoxing (for reasons we'll discuss) is the attraction of influence: how and where we receive the world's details, along with how those details govern and alter the work we've set out to write. Reception and subsequent play between our individual psychic perspectives and the wellspring of what surrounds us--for me, anyway--is where the good times dwell.

This two-day course is for all levels of writers exploring any genre. We'll generate new work and dive more rootedly into how we gather material, hopefully widening the rivers of substance we utilize while lessening our own availability to artistic stuckness.
